I really wanted to talk about the theme of selfishness/selflessness presented in the trilogy. I subscribe to the belief that there is no truly selfless act. That is why it is so hard for me when people talk about how selfless and pure Katniss is. To me, her motivations come from her strong sense…

I think Katniss volunteering for Prim is the perfect example of a selfless act, the kind that are powered by the kind of love they shared. In reality, the main reason that scene is so emotional for me is that I would easily do the same for my younger siblings. My love for them expects nothing, and only hopes they love me too. The only thing I could argue against it being selfless is Katniss (and I myself) would be unable to handle the pain of losing a loved sibling. So by protecting them, we escape emotional pain. But is that really selfishness?

And I wonder, despite marrying Peeta and having children, do you believe Katniss ever recovered? From the tone of the epilogue, I doubt it.
